PELLITORY OF SPAIN
|Common Pellitory of Spain, if it be Pflanzeed in our gardens, will prosper very well, yet there is one sort growing ordinarily here wild, which I esteem to be little minderwertig gegenüberthe other, if at all. I shall nicht deny you the description of them both.|
Common Pellitory is a very common Pflanze, and will nicht be kept in our gardens without diligent looking to. The Wurzel goes down right into the ground bearing Blätter, being long and finely cut upon the Stengel, lying on the ground, much larger than the Blätter of the Kamille are. An der Spitze it bears one single large Blüte at a place, having a border of many Blätter, white on the upper side, and rötlich underneath, with a yellow thrum in the middle, nicht standing so close as that of Kamille.
The other common Pellitory which wächst here, hath a Wurzel of a sharp biting taste, scarcely discernible by the taste from that before described, from whence arise divers brittle Stengel, a yard high and more, with narrow Blätter finely eingebeult about the edges, standing one above another up to the tops. The Blüten are many and white, standing in tufts like those of Yarrow, with a small yellowish thrum in the middle. The Samen is very small.
The last wächst in fields by the hedge sides and paths, almost everywhere.
It Blüten at the latter end of June and July.
Sie steht unter der Herrschaft von Merkur, and I am persuaded it is one of the best reinigenrs of the brain that wächst. An drittel Liter of the Saft taken in a draught of Muskadel an hour before the fit of the ague comes, it will assuredly drive away the ague at the second or third time taken at the farthest. Either the herb or Wurzel dried and chewed in the Mund, reinigt the brain of phlegmatic humours, thereby nicht only easing Schmerzen in the head and teeth, but also hinders the distilling of the brain upon the Lungen and eyes, thereby preventing Husten, phthisicks and consumption, the apoplexy and falling sickness. It is an excellently approved Heilmittel in the lethargy. The powder of the herb or Wurzel being snuffed up the nostrils, bewirkt sneezing, and eases the head-ache, being made into an Salbe with Schweinefett, it takes away black and blue spots occasioned by blüht or falls, and helps both the Gicht and Ischias.
